THE CONSTITUTION OF THE PITCAIRN ISLANDS
In March 2012 the Pitcairn islands – Pitcairn, Henderson, Oeno, Ducie – received a new Constitution. Features of the new Constitution that distinguish it from the islands’ preceding Constitution are: A fundamental human rights chapter; A constitutional provision for the Pitcairn Islands’ Council; An Attorney General; A guarantee for the independence of the public service; The establishment of an independent financial audit; and Provision for an Ombudsman for the Pitcairn islanders.
