Christian, Gifford, Pitcairn Miscellany
23, Mar. 1981, p. 2. "Gifford Christian died on March 4, 1981, aged 73 years.
In his younger days he was a member of the Pitcairn Island Council and also a
member of the School Board. He was a willing helper to anyone who asked for his
help. He was good with his tools; his favourite hobby being the making of cabinet
type boxes, such as book boxes. Very seldom did I ever see him without a smile
on his face. During his last four years, I used to be his company at nights. When
he was not working, he was reading his Bible. If Nurse was there on a visit, he
would always have a Bible text to repeat for her. Never did I hear Gifford utter
any indecencies and even during the time he was suffering from the effects of
his stronke and consequent turns, he was never known to complain. -- Andrew Young."

nine days before his fifteenth birthday, Hugh Christian of Pitcairn Island fell
asleep, trusting in Jesus. For some months he had been failing, wasting down from

at the home, as a mark of respect the schoolboys marched with the casket to the
cemetery, where words of comfort were drawn from God's Word. The sorrowing parents,
Melville and Ninette Christian, and the little sister, we point to the happy day
of reunion when Jesus comes. - F. Percival Ward."

is with sadness that we record the death of Lloyd Christian on Pitcairn Island
on February 23, 1986. (Editor). A close friend, Hugh Lloyd Christian, known to

and Jane Elizabeth Christian on Pitcairn Island. Jimmy had four sisters and eight
brothers, his only surviving brother, Everson Christian, is living in Auckland,
New Zealand. On Sunday, February 23, tragedy struck Pitcairn as Jimmy Christian
died of a heart attack, after he had climbed a very high Jacob's Ladder when visiting
one of the passing ships that called at Pitcairn. My last words spoken to Jimmy
were, 'Take care, Jimmy.' During the last month or so, prior to his death, we
noticed that Jimmy was having dizzy spells, and when he was told that he should
go to the Dispensary for a medical check up, he would reply, 'Nothing wrong.'
We did not realize that his condition was serious. Jimmy was a popular man, liked
by all, and his presence will be missed in this community, particularly in the
church where he laboured for several years in various capacities, such as Deacon,
Sabbath School secretary, and teacher in the children's division. He was always
willing to help with any work connected with the church. Jimmy loved music and
singing, and his voice will be missed wherever singing is heard. Jimmy was the
Government Work Supervisor. He efficiently kept the Government buildings in good
condition during his long term of service. In one of our conversations, Jimmy
requested that when he died, he would like very little said about his life. -
